Case study · Home fragrance
The problem
Offers, launches, fixes and search — a growing brand needed one person who knew the whole store.

01The brief
lo.studio make candles, hand and body care and home fragrance, sold in the UK, Japan and internationally from one Shopify store.
We started in 2025 with a full audit of the store, then worked through the fixes it turned up. It grew from there.
This year brought the biggest pieces — a gift-with-purchase engine the team runs themselves, and Maroc 01, the studio’s first fragrance, a 100ml eau de toilette launching in September 2026.
The context
A gift with purchase is simple to describe and fiddly to build — the right trigger, the right gift, the right moment, and no extra steps for the customer.
Apps exist for it, but each one adds a monthly fee, another script on every page and a modal that looks like someone else’s design.
The launch had the opposite problem. Not how to give something away, but how to know who took it — so the first fifty testers could be followed from sample to first full-size order.
02The work
In 2025, every corner of the store looked at, written up and put in order of what mattered. The fixes it turned up were the first piece of work.
The big piece. Each promotion is one metaobject entry — what triggers it (cart value, or items from a collection), what the customer gets, the wording of the modal, when it starts and stops — and the team switches offers on and off themselves. Three modes from one component — a scent selector, a candle-and-room-spray bundle, and a silent mode that adds the gift automatically and scales it with quantity. The price comes off through a native automatic discount, so the checkout total is always the real one.
The modal listens for add-to-cart, checks the cart against the active promotion and adds the gift without a page load. It appears once per session or until the gift is taken — the team chooses which. UK orders only, by design.
Search improvements worked through from the audit, alongside everything else, rather than waiting for a project of their own.
Landing pages and offers built alongside lo.studio’s newsletter and marketing freelancers. Most recently Maroc 01 — a pre-registration page, a £0 sample checkout on a direct link that carries the campaign with the order, and Shopify Flow tagging every tester and their order.
Maintenance, suggestions, fixes and the next idea — one person who knows the whole store, and who coordinates with the rest of their team so they don’t have to.

03The outcome
Setting up a gift with purchase is now an entry in Shopify admin — pick the trigger, pick the gift, write the line, set the dates. No developer, no app fee, no theme edit.
For the launch, every sample order arrives tagged, so tester-to-customer conversion is a filter in Shopify rather than a guess.
And for everything else — fixes, search, the next offer — there’s one person to call who already knows the store.
